Valencia have set out a plan to retain Mario Domínguez beyond 30 June, when his deal expires, starting with initial contact over a revised deal and a clearer route to the first team.

According to AS, the 2004-born Granada forward hit 16 goals to help Valencia Mestalla stay in Segunda RFEF, plus three in the Premier League International Cup, 19 in total. Interest from other clubs had already been noted.

Talks are at an embryonic stage, with contract length, clauses and figures still to be defined. The club also hold a unilateral option to extend his current contract, and the first contact has been positive.

The working idea is for Domínguez to join pre-season with the senior squad, then his future will be assessed, either staying or leaving to secure genuine minutes after proving Segunda RFEF is too small for him.

He finished as the third top scorer in Group III. He has not played a minute this season under Corberán, an opportunity he previously had with Bordalás and Baraja. Valencia intend that when he next features for the first team, it is to stay.
