Valencia pair Rubo Iranzo and Jesús Vázquez enjoyed landmark moments in the Copa del Rey tie in Burgos. Iranzo scored his first senior goal for the club, while Vázquez wore the captain’s armband in the second half.
The Cup’s one-off ties are decided in 90 minutes, and managers often turn to fringe players and academy graduates. A lifelong Valencia fan, Iranzo described the occasion as a dream fulfilled after the match.
From Picanya, he joined the Academia VCF 16 years ago at benjamín level and climbed steadily to the first team, becoming a regular in Carlos Corberán’s sessions. At El Plantío he impressed at right-back, stepping in with Thierry Correia sidelined.
Vázquez has been with the senior side for several seasons and his role has grown this term. He has featured in every Copa del Rey match to date and has logged almost 600 LaLiga minutes, convincing on the left.
The left-back extended his contract a few months ago until 2028. In Burgos he took the armband when Tárrega went off, later sharing images on social media and reflecting on a childhood dream realised.
Iranzo and Vázquez have known each other for years, teaming up across Valencia’s age groups. In Burgos they did so again, each meeting a target they have pursued since entering Paterna as boys.
