Valencia slumped at Martínez Valero, creating chances but lacking incision and a clear idea. They never looked superior to opponents in the drop zone.

According to Superdeporte, doubts over Valencia's game plan resurfaced a week after the Celta de Vigo loss that angered Mestalla.

In the first half, Rioja created the first big opening for Beltrán, who failed to convert after a Petrot touch. At 0-0, Cömert almost beat Dituro from range.

Four minutes into the second half, Rioja crossed for Sadiq, who headed a simple chance wide. Rioja, the standout, was withdrawn on 60 minutes.
