Valencia slumped at Martínez Valero, creating chances but lacking incision and a clear idea. They never looked superior to opponents in the drop zone.

According to Superdeporte, doubts over Valencia's game plan resurfaced a week after the Celta de Vigo loss that angered Mestalla.

In the first half, Rioja created the first big opening for Beltrán, who failed to convert after a Petrot touch. At 0-0, Cömert almost beat Dituro from range.

Four minutes into the second half, Rioja crossed for Sadiq, who headed a simple chance wide. Rioja, the standout, was withdrawn on 60 minutes.

Elche's goal came from collective misunderstanding at the back. Guido might have done better, and Duro did not stop Febas at the start as Cömert struggled.

Dimitrievski saved the routine efforts but not a difficult one-on-one. Thierry ran plenty without end product, and both Gayà and Cömert went off injured, the latter needing help to walk.

Ugrinic lacked incision and pressed without nous. Beltrán missed another clear chance after the break, Ramazani tried without reward, and Sadiq left visibly angry around the hour.

From the bench, Diego López went close from distance as Dituro impressed. Duro missed a free header, Jesús Vázquez was tidy, Pepelu filled in at centre-back, and Danjuma's low cross was cleared by Germán Valera.

Valencia now visit Palma de Mallorca for another high-stakes night in the fight to stay up.
