Valencia sack Ron Gourlay and Carlos Corberán amid crisis | OneFootball

Valencia have sacked head coach Carlos Corberán and CEO of Football Ron Gourlay after a poor start and flawed transfer planning.

The club said in a statement that it had ended the contracts of Gourlay and his team, Lisandro Isei, Hans Gillhaus, Andrés Zamora and Malek Shafei, the group announced in November. It thanked all departing staff, noted Carlos Corberán led 72 official matches, and said a new structure will be outlined soon, stressing stability and confidence.

Valencia are bottom with one point from five matches. Corberán’s position came under scrutiny after defeat in Sevilla and flat displays in A Coruña and against Barcelona at Mestalla. He was renewed in June until 2028 and has lasted five games this season.

Corberán took over on 25 December 2024 after the dismissal of Rubén Baraja and delivered a strong second half of the campaign. Valencia flirted with relegation for many weeks and secured safety on the penultimate matchday by beating Real Sociedad. He has held significant sway over recruitment.

Gourlay arrived in May 2025, his appointment announced after a trip by Carlos Corberán and Javier Solís to Singapore. As CEO of Football, he aimed to return the team to competitions after four transfer windows. He reshaped the department, removing Miguel Ángel Corona and Carmelo del Pozo and appointing Isei, Gillhaus, Zamora and Shafei.

Sánchez is expected to lead the team on Tuesday at Mendizorroza against Alavés, with Real Sociedad to follow on Sunday before the international break.
