Valencia star Hugo Duro has revealed that he comforted Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, during the meeting between the two sides on Monday.
This comes after Ter Stegen was responsible for a moment to forget during the first-half at Montjuïc.
With Barcelona a goal to the good and looking in control of proceedings, the club’s no.1 emerged from his goal, as the aforementioned Duro chased a ball over the top.
Ter Stegen comfortably reached the ball first, therefore looking in little danger of conceding.
Rather than take the safe option, however, the German international attempted a delicate chip over Duro’s head, which failed to come off.
Instead, the dink came back off the Valencia man’s chest, allowing him to slot home into the empty Barcelona net.
It was a genuine nightmare moment for Ter Stegen, who looked as though he wanted the ground to swallow him up.
And yet, encouragement was swiftly sent the way of the 32-year-old, courtesy of something of a surprise source.
That in question? The man to have taken advantage of his mistake.
Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle in Catalunya’s capital on Monday, Hugo Duro revealed that he sought out Ter Stegen in the aftermath of his goal, to shake the hand of ‘a very humble guy’:
“After Ter Stegen’s mistake, I approached him to shake his hand. He hadn’t made such a mistake in a long time, and he’s just a very humble guy. I know what it’s like; I had a year when nothing went right.”
