Valencia have already agreed a deal to sign Rayo Vallecano goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski when his contract expires this summer, a move that many believe will mean that Giorgi Mamardashvili moves on. However, that possibility is far from concrete, despite strong interest from Newcastle United, among others.
Mamardashvili is on the market, but Valencia will not allow him to leave easily, despite their well-documented financial problems. According to Marca, owner Peter Lim does not intend to budge from his asking price for the Georgian international, which currently sits at €40m.
While this could be a tactic that dissuades clubs from entering the bidding for Mamardashvili, Valencia and Lim fully believe that it allows them to operate from a significant position of strength. They took the exact same approach last summer when AC Milan registered their interest in Yunus Musah, and the Italians eventually caved, paying €20m asking price.
Mamardashvili’s situation will be one to watch over the summer transfer window. Valencia are relaxed about things, and given the nature of Lim’s negotiation tactics, it would be a surprise if they caved to any interested clubs.
