Valencia ‘to pursue’ Van Oevelen loan as Ipswich consider temporary move | OneFootball

Valencia are exploring a loan for Van Oevelen after Ipswich Town signalled a willingness to let the Dutch goalkeeper leave for game time. Tribuna Deportiva reports that the option, thought dead in late July, has been revived.

Their summer window has largely stalled, with only Ryunosuke Sato signed. Right-back remains the priority, with talks for Arnau Martínez, but a winger and a back-up to North Macedonian Stole Dimitrievski are also sought.

Van Oevelen, 23, was the first choice for the position and even agreed terms to 30 June 2031. Newly promoted Ipswich then met FC Volendam’s €4 million asking price, comfortably above the €2 million cap set by CEO of Football Ron Gourlay.

Across pre-season he has mostly been a substitute and Ipswich are considering a loan so he can play more. Valencia rate his profile for his reach and stature, a view shared by the coaching staff and Lisandro Isei’s recruitment team, while the player’s camp is open to a loan and sees Valencia as one possibility.

A loan would fit Valencia’s finances, with the English club covering part of his wages and no fee due. Given his potential, he could push Dimitrievski, and Ipswich face an overload in goal with compatriot Kjell Scherpen, three years older, expected to start after an €8 million move.

Valencia have sounded out the goalkeeper’s representatives about a loan. Their focus on him saw other avenues pass by, including local product Aarón Escandell, who has renewed at Oviedo, while Aleksandr Saputin has been placed on standby.

Valencia accept there will be rivals who can better guarantee minutes in a top league, so the Saputin route remains alive pending the outcome. Ipswich also prefer a Championship destination to ease the keeper into British football.
