Valencia claimed a priceless comeback win over Alavés at Mestalla, snatching it in stoppage time to strengthen their survival push.
After victory over Osasuna, Carlos Corberán's side had a chance to steer their survival bid and did so, coming from behind before winning it late. According to Superdeporte, the result is a major lift.
Valencia now have 32 points from 27 rounds. The gap to the relegation places is seven and 12th feels more secure.
The win also matters against a direct rival because goal average was in play. The reverse fixture ended 0-0 at Mendizorroza, so this result hands Valencia the first tiebreaker.
Even so, there is work to do and the next test is at the Tartiere against Real Oviedo, bottom and all but down from Primera. Another victory would virtually seal safety.
This was only the first of several six-pointers ahead. The immediate schedule includes Oviedo, Sevilla, Elche, Mallorca or Girona, all direct rivals in the fight to avoid Segunda.
