Valenciennes handed 3-0 forfeit and docked one point after Sochaux abandonment

Valenciennes have been sanctioned after crowd trouble forced the abandonment of December’s home match against Sochaux at Stade du Hainaut.

The club said in a statement that it reserves the right to appeal once the written reasons for the decision are received.

On 12 December, during a National fixture, some spectators tried to enter the pitch in protest as the out of form side trailed 1-0 in the 92nd minute.

The match did not resume. The disciplinary commission then awarded Sochaux a 3-0 win and imposed a one point deduction, leaving Valenciennes 12th, level with Villefranche.

The Nungesser stand, from which insults were directed and a flare was thrown, has been given a one match closure, suspended.
