The National match between Valenciennes and Sochaux was abandoned in stoppage time with Sochaux leading 1-0 after home supporters moved to the edge of the pitch, according to L'Équipe.
At Stade du Hainaut in the 16th round, Aymen Boutoutaou put the visitors ahead inside five minutes. Valenciennes were heading for a third straight defeat when six minutes of added time were signalled and a group left a side stand to gather near halfway.
Around 30 stewards formed a cordon to block any entry and scuffles followed, some involving supporters with their faces covered. The referee sent the players to the dressing rooms for safety.
Police reinforcements were deployed, with CRS positioned at the tunnel. Appeals from the stadium announcer and discussions between VAFC director general Yoann Godin and some fans failed to calm matters.
After more than 45 minutes of interruption, the crisis unit, working with police and the sub-prefect, ruled there was no possibility of a restart. The Sochaux players briefly emerged to salute their supporters from a distance.
The French federation’s commission is due to meet on Thursday to decide the match’s fate, with a forfeit Sochaux win under consideration. Valenciennes have won one of their last eight and sit 13th, and could face disciplinary sanctions. The club deplored the behaviour in the stands.
