Valentin Barco has signed for Chelsea on a seven-year contract to 2033, a year after completing a permanent move to Strasbourg. The Argentina international, 22, continues his rise after finishing as a World Cup runner-up.

The Alsace club announced on Sunday that Barco is leaving for Chelsea. The Boca Juniors academy product, who can play full-back or in midfield, made 58 appearances for Racing. He has five caps and two goals for Argentina.

Barco was first loaned to Strasbourg in 2025 before joining permanently. Like Liam Rosenior and Emanuel Emegha, he follows the well-trodden route between the BlueCo-owned clubs.

The fee was not disclosed. Recruited by Strasbourg for about €10m in summer 2025, his sale should deliver a profit for the French side.

Barco had already bid farewell to Strasbourg supporters on Instagram in May. After his extended post-World Cup break, he will rejoin Xabi Alonso's squad in the coming days.
