Blackburn Rovers boss Valerien Ismael has discussed their transfer plans ahead of the January window.
Blackburn boss Valerien Ismael has confirmed the recruitment team have drawn up a list of targets ahead of January, but he admitted any deal will have to be ‘right’ for the club.
It has been a chaotic season so far for Rovers, who are among a host of clubs nervously looking over their shoulder as they try to avoid falling into the relegation zone.
Many expected a difficult campaign for Blackburn after the summer business, with a section of the fans unhappy that the owners hadn’t supported Ismael with more signings to beef up the squad.

Therefore, January was always going to be important, and given their position in the league, you would normally expect Blackburn to be very active.
However, the situation at Ewood Park is complicated by the owners, who have been reluctant to put serious investment into the club over the years, with Ismael even stating recently he would be happy to sacrifice some of his budget to improve the pitch due to the two games that have been abandoned.
So, it will be interesting to see what business gets done, and Ismael opened up on how the window could look when speaking to the club’s media, as he made it clear he has a list of players he wants to sign.
“We've got a clear list of the players we want. It will depend on the deal. If we have to buy players, if we have to take on loan, we will make the right decision for us, what is best for the team and for the club.”
Obviously, it’s unrealistic to expect the outlook to change drastically at Blackburn in January, so Ismael’s comments won’t come as a surprise in the sense that they will only do a deal if it’s right for the club.
Of course, that’s the same everywhere, but Blackburn fans will understandably fear that this update implies they will once again be on the lookout for bargains, and they could miss out on some good signings.

But, that would be a major mistake, as, despite their position, there have been signs of progress under Ismael, and many of the summer signings have made an instant impact, so if he can bring in a few more quality additions, there’s no reason why Rovers can’t climb the table quickly.
Ismael and the recruitment team deserve credit for getting everything in place ahead of the window, but, ultimately, Blackburn will be judged on the business they do.
We know that January is a difficult month to complete signings, and now the Blackburn hierarchy must work hard behind the scenes to ensure they can get favourable deals in order to enhance Ismael’s squad.
