Real Madrid booked their place in the Spanish Super Cup final after seeing off Atlético Madrid 2-1 in Jeddah, with Fede Valverde and Rodrygo doing the damage.
The semi-final exploded into life inside the opening minute when Valverde unleashed a thunderous free-kick from distance that flew past Jan Oblak and into the top corner.
Real looked comfortable early on, with Rodrygo and Vinícius Jr both causing problems, but Atlético gradually grew into the contest and Thibaut Courtois was forced into a string of impressive saves before the break.
Rodrygo gave Los Blancos some breathing space early in the second half, latching onto a perfectly weighted Valverde pass before slotting calmly past Oblak. Atlético responded quickly, though, as Alexander Sørloth headed home from close range to set up a tense finale.
Diego Simeone’s side pushed hard for an equaliser, with Antoine Griezmann and Julián Álvarez both going close, but Real held firm to secure a place in Sunday’s final against Barcelona.
