Marco van Basten doesn’t see things going well with Feyenoord’s goalkeeping situation with Justin Bijlow and Timon Wellenreuther. “San Marco” is adamant: the Rotterdammers have to say goodbye to both keepers after this season, if they are to challenge the top echelons of the league and continental competitions.
Bijlow is fit enough to keep goal against Manchester City again after coming back from a new injury. However, it is still unclear whether he will be preferred over Wellenreuther.
Appearing on Ziggo Sport’s ‘Rondo’, Van Basten was asked who should be in goal at the Etihad Stadium. “The best goalkeeper is Bijlow, I would field him.”
That said, the former Milan and Ajax legend was equally critical. “And at the end of the season, if he’s injured too often: both (should be) gone.”
“One is not good enough, that’s been proven, (Wellenreuther) and the other is injured too often (Bijlow), that’s also been proven.”
“He can show it now and if that doesn’t happen, then you need two new goalkeepers next season.”
