Three of Europe’s most prestigious clubs are preparing to offer Virgil van Dijk a contract should he part ways with Liverpool this summer, sources have confirmed.
With Van Dijk’s current deal set to expire in June, Liverpool remain eager to extend terms with their captain. However, the lack of a breakthrough has put elite clubs across the continent – including Bayern Munich – on high alert.
It is understood that both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are prepared to offer the Dutchman a two-year contract if he leaves Anfield. Bayern Munich, long-time admirers of Van Dijk, are also expected to enter the conversation should the defender opt for a new challenge.
Vincent Kompany is said to be spearheading Bayern’s interest, while clubs in Saudi Arabia are closely monitoring the situation, keen to tempt the centre-back with a lucrative offer.

Van Dijk remains a crucial figure for Liverpool, playing every minute of their Premier League campaign this season. His performances have underlined his enduring quality, making him an attractive proposition for Europe’s elite.
Despite mounting interest, sources indicate that the 33-year-old prioritises staying at Anfield. While he is free to negotiate with foreign clubs, there is no indication that he or his representatives are actively seeking alternatives.
That has not deterred interest, with offers arriving and clubs ready to make their case. Representatives from Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Bayern Munich were all present at Liverpool’s recent Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain. Officially, their attendance was to scout potential opponents, but keeping tabs on Van Dijk was surely a secondary objective.
Should Van Dijk opt to leave, it would leave a significant void in Liverpool’s defence. Arne Slot, set to take charge at Anfield this summer, would face an immediate challenge in finding a suitable replacement.
Liverpool, however, have already laid the groundwork for potential reinforcements. As revealed earlier this year, the club is actively scouting centre-back options regardless of Van Dijk’s decision. The profile of any incoming defender will be heavily influenced by whether the captain remains on Merseyside.
Goncalo Inacio, Levi Colwill, Dean Huijsen, and Joel Ordonez are among the names under consideration as Liverpool prepare for all eventualities.
Van Dijk remains one of the world’s most commanding centre-backs, and his decision will have a significant impact on both Liverpool and the broader European football landscape. Whether he extends his stay at Anfield or embarks on a new adventure, his next move will be one of the summer’s biggest talking points.
