The Vancouver Whitecaps have received a takeover proposal that could see the MLS club relocated to Las Vegas amid ongoing structural challenges.

According to L'ÉEquipe, a US investor group led by Grant Gustavson, son of billionaire Tamara Gustavson, has bid to buy the Canadian side and move it to Las Vegas, alongside plans for a new stadium.

The precise terms have not been disclosed. Difficulties around stadium profitability, venue access and limited revenues have been acknowledged, and finding buyers committed to keeping the team in Vancouver has proved difficult.

Over the past 16 months, serious talks have been held with more than 100 parties, yet no viable proposal to keep the club in the city has emerged. The search for a solution remains a priority, with any well resourced local group invited to come forward.

The relocation concept forms part of the investors’ plan, but the situation remains unresolved while ownership discussions continue.
