Gazzetta dello Sport and Repubblica report that Paolo Vanoli is set to return to Fiorentina three months after his exit, replacing Fabio Grosso. Fabrizio Romano adds that the 54-year-old has reached a verbal agreement with La Viola.
Fiorentina announced Grosso’s sacking on Sunday night after just four competitive matches of the 2026-27 season. He had one Coppa Italia victory, then lost the opening three Serie A games.
Despite spending over €130m in the summer, results were bleak. They were beaten 4-0 at Roma, then 3-0 by Frosinone in Florence, and 2-1 by Torino, also at the Stadio Franchi.
Vanoli previously took charge as caretaker in November 2025, replacing Stefano Pioli, and guided Fiorentina to safety in 2025-26. The club chose not to extend his deal, appointing Grosso instead.
Grosso, a 2006 Italy World Cup winner, lasted four competitive fixtures in charge this season.
