VAR returns to the Coupe de France from the quarter-finals, beginning on Tuesday with Strasbourg v Reims at 21:00. The French Football Federation said video assistance will be in place for every tie, running through to Lyon v Lens on Thursday at 21:10.

Seven Ligue 1 clubs are still in the competition at this stage. VAR will also be used for the remainder of the tournament.

Goal-line technology will not be deployed yet. It is scheduled only for the semi-finals and the final, depending on the stadiums selected.

For the last four, referees will be mic’d up. After any major decision taken following a VAR review, they must announce the outcome to supporters in the ground and to television viewers.

That innovation is expected to appear across Ligue 1 from next season.
