Vasco are accelerating negotiations to sign Paraguayan striker Gabriel Ávalos, 35, from Independiente. The Avellaneda club have set an asking price of 1.2 million dollars, about R$ 6.2 million.

According to PaponaColina, talks are at an advanced stage and there is a realistic chance Ávalos could be held back from this weekend’s league match.

The player’s side and Independiente are optimistic and report no contractual barriers to a move to Brazilian football. Personal terms with Vasco are well aligned, with only club paperwork to formalise.

Olimpia have also shown late interest after being eliminated by Vasco in the Copa Sudamericana on Thursday, 20 August.

Head coach Pedro Emanuel has prioritised an experienced focal point to strengthen the attack for the Campeonato Brasileiro run-in and the latter stages of the cups. Ávalos, a powerful penalty-box forward with aerial threat, built his reputation at Argentinos Juniors and is a regular for Paraguay.
