Vasco have agreed a deal to sign Santiago Sosa, 27, with Racing authorising his trip to Rio de Janeiro for medical checks and to finalise a contract in the coming days.

According to Globo.com, the fee is around US$ seven million, R$ 35.5 million at the current rate, and talks had been advanced for more than a week. The midfielder even bid farewell to Racing supporters before the game against Tigre in the Argentine league on the first of August.

Racing requested about half the sum up front, demanded financial guarantees, and protections in case of delayed instalments. Those conditions slowed the conclusion, but Vasco resolved them and agreed terms for his release.

The move is considered pivotal for Vasco as they seek to reinforce all areas of the squad. Sosa can play in midfield or at centre-back and has been on the club’s list since last year. He was among the standouts in Racing’s 2024 Copa Sudamericana title win.

He will be the second reinforcement to arrive in Rio. On Friday, the club announced a pre-agreement with striker Facundo Colidio, who will be Vasco’s new number nine.
