According to PaponaColina, Vasco have agreed to cover Franclim Carvalho’s release clause to prise him from Botafogo, but hesitation on the coach’s side is delaying a deal.
Savings from Renato Gaúcho’s exit, which required no compensation, and financial clearance from court-appointed intervenor Samantha Mendes Longo underpin the move. The offer is for an 18-month contract to December 2027 with a salary increase, and freeing him would cost about 350,000 euros, roughly R$ 2.1 million, to Botafogo.
Despite progress led by executive director Admar Lopes, the switch is not final. Carvalho is weighing potential backlash from Botafogo supporters if he crosses the city, while also fearing he could be dismissed by Botafogo after two or three defeats amid recent instability and so miss the Vasco opportunity.
At General Severiano, Botafogo say they are still waiting for formal notification from Vasco, with talks so far channelled through the coach’s representatives. The Vasco SAF hierarchy hope to iron out remaining psychological and contractual issues and try to reach a deal early this week.
If concluded, it would return a foreign head coach to São Januário. The last was fellow Portuguese Álvaro Pacheco, whose spell lasted only four official matches before he was dismissed.
Any incoming staff would also have time on the training ground. Vasco are next due to play on 16 July, a Thursday, away to Vitória at Barradão in Salvador, the final round of the first half of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
