Vasco are close to agreeing a deal with Copenhagen for centre-back Gabriel Pereira, with negotiations now in their final stages, TV 2 Sport reports. The 25-year-old is lined up as a defensive addition for Pedro Emanuel this season.
Talks accelerated after Diego Carlos turned down a move, prompting Vasco SAF to concentrate on securing Pereira’s release from the Danish club.
Both clubs are working through final administrative and contractual details. The deal structure has been discussed as either a loan with a fixed purchase option or a permanent transfer.
A decisive factor has been the player’s preference. Despite European interest, including a recent approach from Panathinaikos, he chose to prioritise the São Januário project.
Family considerations have weighed heavily. Pereira, who has a young son, told his representatives he wants to return to Brazil and asked Copenhagen for his release after the last round of the domestic league, a stance that helped soften the club’s position and move talks forward.
Developed at Volta Redonda, he impressed in Portugal with Vilafranquense and Gil Vicente before joining Copenhagen, featuring in international competitions and establishing a combative reputation. A one point eight eight metre right-footed centre-back, he offers aerial strength and aggression in duels, qualities valued by Vasco’s staff for the rest of the campaign.
