Vasco appoint Pedro Emanuel as head coach | OneFootball

Vasco have appointed Pedro Emanuel as their new head coach, the club announced. The 51-year-old Portuguese recently left Al-Fayha in Saudi Arabia and will arrive in Rio on Friday to begin work before Thursday's Brasileirão match against Vitória.

He will be joined by assistants Rui Gomes and Pedro Correia, fitness coach André Galbe and performance analyst Gil Varajão. According to Globo.com, talks with Pedro Emanuel intensified over the past two days and the deal was concluded quickly.

He was a free agent but had more financially advantageous offers from other Saudi clubs. The project presented by Admar Lopes and his desire to work in Brazil led him to accept Vasco's proposal. He saw no obstacle in the SAF legal situation and is excited about his first job in Brazilian football.

Emanuel began his managerial career in 2011 in Portuguese football and has spent the past seven seasons in the Arab game, six in Saudi Arabia, with spells at Al-Nassr, Al-Khaleej and Al-Fayha. He has also coached Almería in Spain, as well as Estoril and Arouca in Portugal. He was succeeded by Fábio Carille in his most recent post.

Vasco had been without a head coach since 18 June after dismissing Renato Gaúcho. The club explored options with Franclim Carvalho and Fernando Seabra, but a SAF legal imbroglio hindered a swift appointment.
