Vasco are close to an agreement with Real Betis for 26-year-old midfielder Nelson Deossa, set to be their first mid-year window addition.

According to Globo.com, the offer is a loan with an option to buy that could become an obligation if contractual targets are met. The fixed price is around eight million euros, with triggers lifting it to about 10 to 11 million euros.

River Plate are also interested, though Vasco are ahead in talks at present. Deossa is keen to leave Betis and views a move to Brazil positively as he chases a Colombia recall.

Vasco have used that pathway in their pitch, as seen with Marino Hinestroza earlier this year.

Andrés Gómez returned to Néstor Lorenzo's lists and was called up for the World Cup after rediscovering form at Vasco. Carlos Cuesta made the preliminary squad, as did midfielder Johan Rojas. Deossa is a friend of Rojas, having played with him at Monterrey.

Deossa impressed in México with Pachuca and Monterrey between 2023 and 2025. His step to Europe has been quieter, and although he made 33 appearances for Betis last season, he did not stand out.

Betis need to raise funds to comply with La Liga's salary rules. Even if structured only for 2027, the deal could be recognised in this season's accounts under Spanish football regulations.
