Vasco da Gama confirmed on Monday the end of Chilean forward Jean David’s spell at São Januário after a goalless run.
He arrived in August 2024 from Toluca in Mexico with senior Chile call-ups on his CV. The deal was worth about US$ 1.5 million, roughly R$ 8.5 million at the time.
The investment never translated on the pitch. He made 15 competitive appearances, scored no goals and provided no assists, with an average rating of 4.35 in specialist assessments.
In 2025 he fell out of favour completely, going more than 200 days without playing before his departure. His last notable outing came in the Campeonato Carioca, and under Fernando Diniz he was rarely even named in matchday squads.
The termination recognises a market error, easing the wage bill and opening up planning for 2026.
