Vasco are scouring the market for a new midfielder, a priority since the last window, and have enquired about Arthur, who is leaving Grêmio. With the player tied to Juventus until June 2027, a move looks unlikely.
Arthur remains close to Renato Gaúcho after their trophy-laden spell at Grêmio from 2016 to 2018. Itatiaia reported that Renato phoned to check on the player’s situation once his exit was confirmed.
Financial terms are a major obstacle. In talks with Grêmio, Arthur sought about R$ two and a half million per month on a three-year deal, sums Vasco deem unworkable. Grêmio offered roughly R$ one and a half million, but talks stalled.
Arthur wanted to stay at Grêmio and pursued a free release from Juventus. He was willing to forgo R$ four million per month due until June 2027, so felt a higher salary and longer term were fair. Juventus have yet to decide whether to use him.
Vasco’s hierarchy liked his leadership and match fitness, and the lack of any readaptation needed. Renato has said the squad needs reinforcements, targeting three to four signings for the 2026 Brasileirão, Copa do Brasil and Sul-Americana.
The club are working to a tight budget after spending more than R$ 100 million in the first window. Bigger outlays depend on completing the SAF sale to a new investor, with talks with Marcos Lamacchia advanced.
