Vasco have made an initial enquiry for Vitória head coach Jair Ventura as they continue their search after talks with Fernando Seabra collapsed. No formal offer has been lodged.

Asked on Friday about the interest, Ventura avoided the subject and did not confirm any approach. "Nesses dez anos de carreira, quando acontece isso meu telefone bomba. Eu não me sinto confortável em fazer. Eu não falo", he said, speaking to Vitória's official channel.

He is under contract at Vitória until the end of the season and declined to discuss a possible renewal through the end of 2027.

Vasco’s hunt for a coach remains unresolved. The Rio club sacked Renato Gaúcho, then reached an agreement with Seabra, who later told them he would stay at Coritiba after a disagreement over how to pay his release.

Ventura arrived late last year with a brief to keep Vitória up. Across 14 rounds they achieved safety with the sixth best record in that spell, a 55% return from seven wins, two draws and five defeats.

This season his side have won the Copa do Nordeste, the second trophy of his career, and reached the Copa do Brasil last 16 after eliminating Flamengo. Vitória were also state runners-up and are 13th in Série A.
