Vasco have begun trimming their squad to create space for South American additions in 2026, with foreign departures under way. According to Globo.com, this follows a season finished close to the cap on foreign players.
CBF permits nine foreign players per match. Vasco finished the campaign with eight, and the return of Argentine midfielder Sforza from a loan at Juventude would take them to the max.
The first to depart was Chilean Jean David. He was contracted until mid next year, had not played since April and was not expected to feature.
Even after his exit, the club sit at the limit with nine foreigners at the end of 2025. They are Sforza, Vegetti, Garré, Puma Rodríguez, Maurício Lemos, Nuno Moreira, Maxime, Andrés Gómez and Carlos Cuesta.
At least four could depart. Sforza is expected to be moved on, as is Garré, who featured little in 2025. Maurício Lemos will not stay, while Maxime’s future is unresolved after a loan to Toronto F.C. in Canada, where he played 25 MLS matches.
Additions are being assessed. Football director Admar Lopes studies South American options and targets young players with potential who are considered negotiable by their clubs, as seen with Andrés Gómez this season.
Vasco recently made a bid for Johan Rojas, a Colombian midfielder owned by Monterrey. While talks over Rojas and other potential reinforcements continue, the club are working to refine the squad.
