Vasco have shifted their midfield search to Mauro Arambarri, opening talks with Getafe over the Uruguayan. According to NTVascaínos, initial contact has been made and viewed positively, after negotiations for Santiago Sosa stalled over cost.
Arambarri, 30, has long attracted South American clubs but stayed in Europe. Vasco’s project now appeals to the player and his camp, who see a return to the continent to represent a Brazilian giant in 2026 as a good fit.
The plan is a loan with an option to buy at the end of the deal, in line with the club’s budget approach this window. It would avoid an upfront fee, spread costs through wages and allow evaluation before any permanent move. Getafe are considering the proposal, and the player’s stance could help unlock an exit.
The move follows the Sosa setback at Racing. While the Argentine carried a high operation cost, Arambarri is seen as a viable market opportunity signed off by performance analysis. He offers bite and leadership rather than pure construction, traits the squad are seeking for a demanding season.
Developed at Defensor Sporting, Arambarri moved to Bordeaux, had a short spell with Boston River, then joined Getafe in 2018. After almost eight years in La Liga against Real Madrid and Barcelona among others, he brings the experience coach Fernando Diniz wants in midfield. Beyond ball-winning, he can strike from range, pass neatly and operate either as a holder or a combative second midfielder.
