According to PaponaColina, Vasco have opened talks and sought information to sign 33-year-old centre-back Diego Carlos from Fenerbahçe. The Brazilian is viewed as a priority for the second-half 2026 transfer window.

Early enquiries focused on salary levels and the deal structure Fenerbahçe would accept to release the player. Negotiations are not straightforward, he is contracted in Istanbul until mid-2028, so the club are proceeding patiently in meetings with his representatives.

Head coach Pedro Emanuel has approved the move, having asked for an experienced leader at the back. The staff want a physically strong defender to address positioning issues and improve the team’s set-piece and aerial work.

Director Admar Lopes is leading contacts and attempting to broker a loan with an option to buy for Vasco. Management are acting cautiously to avoid breaching the SAF budget while talks over a share sale to businessman Marcos Faria Lamacchia continue.

Diego Carlos built a solid career in Europe, most notably at Sevilla, where he won the 2019/2020 UEFA Europa League. His form in Spain earned a big-money transfer to Aston Villa, where he played in the Premier League before moving to Türkiye.

With his current club, the 33-year-old remains involved in continental competition and has maintained his fitness in defence. A Desportivo Brasil academy graduate, he also won Olympic gold at the Tokyo Games with Brazil in 2021.
