Vasco have halted recruitment following Fernando Diniz's dismissal. According to Globo.com, they still want a holding midfielder, but the immediate focus is appointing a new head coach.
Initially, a signing in that role was only planned if Tchê Tchê or Hugo Moura were moved on, both back-ups to Barros and Thiago Mendes. Early season performances prompted a rethink.
The quartet remain in the plans, yet the club believe they need greater strength in midfield. With limited funds after recent deals, they are prioritising a free transfer or a loan.
The international window closes next Tuesday, and clubs also have a domestic transfer period until 27 March. Any domestic recruit must have played at least one state championship match.
For now, transfer plans are frozen while the club settle on Diniz's successor.
Renato Gaúcho received enquiries on Monday and responded positively, putting him at the front of the queue to take the job. No formal offer has been made.
