Vasco have moved to the front for Copenhagen centre-back Gabriel Pereira, with negotiations stepping up on Thursday as the player pushes to join. The player is keen on returning to Rio state, a stance that has energised the talks.

The club are working on a loan with an obligation to buy, or a structure that keeps the initial outlay low, while they wait on DIP financing. On Wednesday, ge reported Copenhagen’s starting price was high, to the point Vasco had considered continuing without a defensive signing, but the picture has shifted.

Copenhagen are aware of the defender’s preference and are not expected to resist as firmly as at the start of the window. Payment terms remain under discussion.

Pereira, 1.88m, right footed and wearing the number five, has been an undisputed starter for two seasons and offers leadership and aggression in duels. He is from Volta Redonda and has a child living in the state. The family factor is decisive at this stage of his career.

His agent, Roberto Velasco, has travelled to Denmark to intensify talks directly with the Danish club’s hierarchy. European interest, including from Panathinaikos, has been monitored, but the player has prioritised the São Januário project. Separately, Vasco have also secured Lescano to bolster creativity, so closing Pereira would address two needs in one window.
