Vasco lost after leading at São Januário, with Léo Jardim, Puma Rodríguez, Johan Rojas and Marino Hinestroza judged the poorest performers against Botafogo.

According to Globo.com, this was the team's worst first half under Renato Gaúcho. David struck after the break to put Vasco in front, before Matheus Martins and Villalba turned the game.

Jardim was badly placed for Villalba's header and stayed rooted for Matheus Martins' finish, though he denied efforts from Matheus Martins and Danilo. Puma mixed an assist with loose passing and lapses in marking, arguing with the referee instead of recovering on Matheus Martins' goal.

Saldivia risked a red as the last man on Matheus Martins and struggled on the ground against Arthur Cabral, while Robert Renan recovered late to thwart the striker after being beaten. Cuiabano switched off for Villalba's free header, and Barros failed to stop the counter that led to it.

Thiago Mendes helped build play but errors crept in and he tired. Tchê Tchê missed a sitter with the keeper down and added little, Rojas overelaborated and slowed transitions, and Marino was contained by Caio Roque and made poor choices.

David was otherwise quiet yet clinical with his one chance, Spinelli brought fight without finesse, Andrés Gómez was wasteful and at times got in Cuiabano's way on the left, and Nuno headed a late chance wide. Gaúcho's changes did not work, the equaliser rattled Vasco and a brittle defence sealed the comeback.
