Vasco were knocked out of the Campeonato Carioca semi-finals after a 1-0 defeat to Fluminense, confirming a 10-year wait for the state title, the second-longest in the club’s history.
Globo.com points out the longest waits were 11 championships without winning, from 1959 to 1969 and from 2004 to 2014.
The current sequence covers 2017 to 2026. Other droughts include eight editions between 1937 and 1944 and six between 1971 and 1976.
Vasco last lifted the Carioca in 2016, beating Botafogo in the final. Since then they have finished runners-up twice.
Their most recent final came in 2019, when Flamengo won the decider. They missed the semi-finals in 2020 and 2021, then have been eliminated five times in a row at that stage.
