Vasco da Gama have rejected a major Grêmio bid for right-back Paulo Henrique, hardening their stance amid anger over the pursuit.

Geral CazeTV reports that Grêmio offered €2 million, around R$ 12.3 million, plus the permanent transfer of a player.

Vasco’s hierarchy were incensed by reports in the South that Paulo Henrique had already agreed salary and contract length with Grêmio. They regarded this as an affront and a breach of market ethics.

The club’s legal department is studying formal steps and action has not been ruled out. Officials believe there may have been aliciamento, an improper approach to a contracted player, which is condemned by FIFA and the CBF.

Internally, the leak is viewed as an attempt to destabilise the environment and force a sale, something the current leadership will not tolerate. Paulo Henrique remains in the plans for 2026.

Vasco’s stance signals that budget constraints will not trigger cut-price exits for starters, with sporting performance prioritised over immediate profit.
