Vasco have been given a deadline by Conmebol to confirm the venue for their Copa Sudamericana semi-final second leg against Boca Juniors on 20 October, with the club required to notify the confederation by Monday, according to Coluna Do Fla.

Vasco’s initial plan was to stage the tie at the Maracanã, but the stadium consortium, run by Flamengo and Fluminense, rejected the request. Stadium CEO Fred Nantes cited technical reasons linked to the pitch, which needs recovery time.

Flamengo’s calendar also weighs on the decision. They are due to host Estudiantes in the Libertadores semi-final second leg on 22 October at the Maracanã, which would leave the turf with just over two days to recover if Vasco played there.

With that option vetoed, Vasco are considering São Januário as the alternative. President Pedrinho plans to speak with Boca’s president, Riquelme, about the away allocation. Any arrangement would still require Conmebol approval.

Separately, Pedrinho said he will not stage the Brasileirão derby with Flamengo at the Maracanã despite an existing contract. He intends to seek the second-round meeting at São Januário and will no longer ask to play at the Maracanã, adding that he has a stadium and does not feel accepted there.
