Here's how he got on…
THE STADIUM TASTE TEST
Nick's tour covered three popular spots at St. James' Park:
Wings: The tour kicked off in our premium hospitality suite, where fine-dining dishes proved that plant-based cuisine can be sophisticated, colourful and full of flavour.
Concourse kiosks: Next up were fan-favourites made for matchdays: a hearty vegan pie, seasoned vegan sausage roll, and spicy loaded fries all earned Nick's approval.
Shearer's Bar: On the final stop of the tour, Nick tucked into a classic vegan 'chicken' curry and chips - proper comfort food, served with a sustainable twist.
FUELLING PERFORMANCE
For Nick, going plant-based isn't a trend - it's a tool for professional performance. "I feel way better," he said. "Sometimes on the pitch I used to get cramps, but changing to vegan has helped a lot. I started about two and a half years ago and in that time my career has progressed."
He highlighted tofu as a staple of his diet and noted that he has unintentionally become something of a 'secret' vegan. "I eat mainly vegan but some fish too, and I eat a lot of tofu," he explained. "Tofu is amazing. I've never really told people I'm vegan, hopefully the fans will like it."
A GROWING MENU AND A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
"We're committed to playing our part in a greener future - that includes making it easier for both fans and players to enjoy vegan food options", said Helen Hughes, Newcastle United's Sustainability Manager. "Small choices on matchdays can add up to a meaningful impact on the planet we all share."
Whether your diet is fully plant based, vegan-curious, or you’re simply looking for a delicious alternative on matchday, we remain committed to ensuring there is more choice than ever.
Make sure you try one of our plant-based options in Wings, around the concourse or in Shearer's this Veganuary.
