Vegetti embodied Vasco’s pain at the Maracanã, collapsing in tears after a 2-1 defeat to Corinthians in the Copa do Brasil final.
According to Globo.com, he spent the first half among the substitutes, focused during warm-ups, then erupted when Nuno Moreira levelled late in the opening period. At the interval he ran to midfield to speak with referee Wilton Pereira Sampaio.
Vasco pushed on after the break, but Corinthians struck through Memphis Depay, the goal confirmed by VAR. Vegetti, anxious behind the goal, came on four minutes later for Barros.
His big chance arrived in stoppage time, a header from a Matheus França cross drifting wide, and a late siege brought no breakthrough. The whistle confirmed Corinthians’ fourth title.
Afterwards, Vegetti was lifted from the turf and consoled by Victor Luis. At the presentation, Fernando Diniz told his players to applaud Corinthians, and Vegetti took his medal still inconsolable.
The Argentine had spoken about the hurt of the 2024 semi-final loss to Atlético-MG and his dream of winning this cup, and before the second leg against Fluminense he told team-mates nobody deserved it more. Less than two weeks earlier he had scored the first leg winner at the Maracanã.
He ends his third season without silverware, but has at least one more year on his deal to chase that dream. He finished 2025 as Brazilian football’s top scorer with 27 goals and is level with Nenê as Vasco’s second-highest scorer of the century on 60, behind Romário.
