Vélez have lodged a formal complaint with the AFA after losing on penalties to Boca in the Copa Argentina. The club said in a statement that it has asked the AFA Disciplinary Tribunal to overturn the round of 16 tie on two September.
The complaint centres on Boca listing six foreign players on the official teamsheet when the regulations allow only five in a single match.
The six named were Álvaro Montero, Leandro Lozano, Sebastián Villa, Carlos Palacios, Enner Valencia and Ángel Romero.
Evidence cited includes the official teamsheet and the AFA's COMET system, and the filing presents the matter as one of rule compliance rather than interpretation or refereeing.
It asks for the line-up to be ruled improper, for Vélez to be recognised as quarter-finalists and for Boca's progression to be suspended until a definitive resolution.
The position will be pursued through the proper institutional channels, with an assertion that equality before the rules should not be optional.
