Venezia have signed Thierry Rendall on a free, confirming the Portuguese right-back after his seven-year Valencia spell. He joins on a one-year deal with an option for a second season tied to appearance targets.

The club announced the move, adding a player with LaLiga experience and youth caps for Portugal. The structure reflects caution over his recent fitness record.

Rendall arrived at Valencia in 2019 from Sporting de Portugal with the profile of a modern, powerful full-back. He produced good spells when he strung games together on the right.

Injuries repeatedly interrupted his progress, preventing a sustained run and forcing Valencia to rotate options at right-back. The inconsistency ultimately weighed on his standing during a period of sporting and financial strain at Mestalla.

For Venezia, it is a calculated market move, no fee and a flexible contract. For the player, it offers a clean slate to regain rhythm, confidence and prominence in Italy.

His fitness will be decisive. If he stays available and performs, the deal can extend and Venezia could find value on the right. If problems persist, the short term limits risk.

Rendall follows Nani and Denis Cheryshev in swapping Valencia for Venezia, becoming the third to make that journey. His situation differs, but the aim is similar, to rebuild standing in Serie A.
