Speaking in the aftermath of his side’s narrow 2-1 defeat against Roma, Venezia forward Joel Pohjanpalo admitted the result was a tough one to swallow.
The 30 year-old earned his side a lead at halftime after he slid the ball past Mile Svilar and into the back of the net in the 44th minute. However, the Giallorossi scored twice in the second half to overturn the result and hand the Lagunari their fourth defeat of the season.
“It’s hard to compare this game to the Lazio one because I didn’t play in it—all I can say is that today was really tough and it’s a shame about the final result,” Pohjanpalo said during a post-match press conference.
“Nonetheless, the team is united and we absolutely believe in this manager [Eusebio Di Francesco]. You can see the progress the team has made in last weekend’s win over Genoa.”
He continued, “Unfortunately, the little mistakes cost us a lot today, but we’ll continue to work fixing this.”
Venezia return to action next Friday when they face fellow Veneto-based side Verona.
