“The dream is to play even just one minute in Serie A with Pescara,” the 32-year-old told Gazzetta.

“We always need to give ourselves a goal: maybe I’ll achieve it now that I’m co-president with a 50% stake. You see, only for my Pescara I would have done what I truly wanted to do: they gave me everything and I wanted to repay them from the heart.

“I needed a new challenge and new motivations. In Paris, winning had become something almost taken for granted. Here I rediscovered something like a ‘childlike’, the joy of winning, like when I was a kid,” he continued.

“Pure happiness. In Paris, winning had become monotonous, repetitive.”

Verratti won the French titles nine times and lifted the French Cup six times, but PSG have now managed to win the Champions League.

The reporter argued that the Ligue 1 giants won the Cup with the Big Ears despite not having big stars, but Verratti disagreed.

“That’s not true. There are stars there, and they have built a great team that is very focused on the collective. Luis Enrique has done an excellent job,” he said.

“They’ll keep winning for years to come. One thing, they wrote that I had left PSG because Luis Enrique wanted it. It’s not true. I can guarantee that my conversation with Nasser Al Khelaifi about leaving happened much earlier. I told him I wanted new challenges. We are still on great terms, he’s an outstanding person.”

Verratti is a Euro 2020 winner with the Italy national team and has collected 55 appearances with La Nazionale, scoring three goals.

A PSG legend, Verratti spent 11 seasons at PSG, scoring 11 goals in 416 appearances.
