One major positive that came from Saturday’s victory against the Cod Army was that Akin Famewo got through his second 90 minutes and first home game since returning from injury.

Sharing his thoughts on the 24-year-old’s last couple of performances since he return from the sidelines, Carlton Palmer told Football League World: “It has been good opposition to come back against. With the latest being a game that Sheffield Wednesday would have been expecting to win.

“But himself and Iorfa were very solid and composed at the back and it was yet another clean sheet.

“So, it’s very encouraging to have him back, especially with the loss of Mark McGuinness and he played very, very well.

Darren Moore is the current manager?

True False

“So, fingers crossed that he continues with his good form and injury free.”

The verdict

Despite there still being a need to sign another defender at Hillsborough, given that there are still several defensive injuries, Famewo’s return has certainly been welcomed.

After losing Mark McGuinness, who was in fantastic form at the time of his departure, Famewo is someone who has stepped up ad thrived in the last couple of games.

Not only has he dominated his duels over the last couple of games, but his intelligence with the ball at his feet also stands him out as an important figure for the Owls when progressing through the thirds.

Given the length of time that Famewo has been out injured, he is almost like a new signing, although they still need to add to ensure that there are good levels of competition all across the squad.
