‘Very harsh’ – Diego Simeone launches defence of Real Madrid | OneFootball

Spanish champions Real Madrid have this week come in for some kind words on the part of something of a surprise source.

The individual in question? Diego Simeone.

Tactician Simeone is for his part of course fresh off having his heart broken by none other than Real Madrid for just the latest occasion.

After welcoming Los Blancos to the Metropolitano for the 2nd leg of the Champions League Last-16 tie between the clubs, Atlético managed to take things all the way to a penalty shootout.

When all was said and done, however, it was Carlo Ancelotti’s visitors who held their nerve once more.

Real Madrid did not exactly impress on the evening, scraping victory for what feels like the umpteenth time this season.

Speaking in the aftermath of the clash, with the dust having now settled on the latest Madrid Derby, Atlético boss Diego Simeone was therefore asked whether he feels as though this current Real side is the club’s weakest for some time.

The Argentine, however, made use of the opportunity to defend his side’s arch rivals:

“The worst Madrid team in years? It seems to me that you’re being very harsh to an incredible team with players like Vinícius, Mbappé, Valverde, Bellingham, Rodrygo and Brahim.”
