Very interesting to look back at this official UEFA team of the tournament after summer U21 Euros | OneFootball

This summer the Young Lions retained the Under 21 Euros title that was won in 2023.

Lee Carsley in charge for both tournaments.

Anthony Gordon named player of the tournament back in 2023.

As for 2025, Germany had a 100 per cent record in the build up to the final, winning all five games in the tournament, including a 2-1 victory over England in the group stage.

However, it was Lee Carsley’s side who brilliantly won the final 3-2 in extra-time.

Afterwards, UEFA announced their team of the tournament.

Anthony Gordon following up his 2023 Euros win by becoming Newcastle United player of the season in 2023/24.

Tino Livramento was brilliant last season for Newcastle United and started this season the same, only for that cowardly challenge by Arsenal’s Saliba to cause a bad injury to the United full-back. His absence certainly reminds us all of just how much he gives this Newcastle United side.

Tino was already a full England international but Thomas Tuchel thought it a big positive if the Newcastle star took what some regarded as a step backwards, to be one of the leaders for the England Under 21s at this Euros tournament.

It couldn’t have worked out any better and Tino Livramento surely set to be in the England squad for the 2026 World Cup finals.

Nick Woltemade was asked to do a similar thing with Germany, already capped by the senior national side and having had a real breakthrough in club football with Stuttgart, Big Nick asked to be a leader for the Germany Under 21s. He did so superbly and with six goals finished top scorer in the tournament and put in some superb all round performances. Woltemade carrying that on through for Newcastle United.

Whilst looking further at that Under 21s Euros team of the tournament, amongst the others included, you have lifelong Newcastle United fan Elliot Anderson now a regular starter (and man of the match!) for the senior England side.

Of the 24 teams to win the European Under-21 Championship, 10 of them have gone on to win either the World Cup or the senior Euros in the next 12 years.

Nine of those have featured players from that successful U21 squad.

Of course there is still time for Germany, winners in 2017 and 2021, and England in 2023 to do so.

Another five have reached a final in that time frame but lost.
