With all the departures and new additions, FC Barcelona had quite an eventful summer transfer window. However, one of the most peculiar events from this window was the way the midfielder Oriol Romeu departed the club.
The Spaniard was reported to have reached a contract termination agreement with the Catalan club in the last few days of the market, but the Blaugranes announced this only some days after the end of the transfer window.
Now 33 and a free agent, Romeu finds himself evaluating his next move. Although Europe’s doors have largely shut, he can still sign elsewhere, as transfer windows in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, and Brazil remain open.
According to SPORT, among the clubs showing interest is Al-Shabab, managed by former Real Sociedad coach Imanol Alguacil. The Saudi side is reportedly keen on adding Romeu to its squad, and a meeting between Al-Shabab and the player’s representatives is expected in the coming days to advance talks.
For now, Romeu remains in limbo. Multiple clubs have made contact, but no decision has been finalized. With several markets still open and Al-Shabab pushing hardest, the former Barcelona midfielder’s next destination should soon become clear.
