Vincent Kompany is currently undisputed at FC Bayern – but a name from the past is now attracting attention again. Sebastian Hoeneß was considered a hot candidate for the coaching job in Munich before the Belgian was signed. Now a VfB boss has spoken out and made a remarkable assessment

Alexander Wehrle, CEO of VfB Stuttgart, believes that his coach is fundamentally capable of making the move to the German record champions. „Sebastian is a great coach. I have every confidence in him,“ Wehrle told BILD

Hoeneß is held in high esteem at VfB, with Wehrle praising his clear playing ideas and leadership qualities in particular. „The overall package of Sebastian Hoeneß is just right,“ emphasized the club boss

In addition to his professional expertise, Wehrle also emphasized his personal qualities: Hoeneß is a team player, a strong rhetorician and has implemented a clear structure in Stuttgart – factors that also make him interesting for top clubs

Bayern currently not an issue

Despite the words of praise, Wehrle made it clear that a transfer is currently not an issue. „We are already planning the new season together,“ he said with a view to the long-term collaboration. Hoeneß is still tied to the Swabians until 2028

The sporting situation at FC Bayern also speaks against a coaching discussion at the moment. Vincent Kompany has proven to be a complete success in his first season. Having won the German championship and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and the DFB Cup, the 40-year-old is firmly in the saddle

Prospects for the future?

Nevertheless, Wehrle’s statement shows the standing Hoeneß now enjoys. The 43-year-old has made a lasting impression with his work in Stuttgart and could play a role at a top European club in the long term

In the short term, however, a commitment to FC Bayern remains pure speculation. Munich are fully committed to Kompany – and currently have no reason to change this.
