Speaking to media as VfB Stuttgart begin their pre-season training, director Fabian Wohlgemuth has confirmed that Waldermar Anton and Sehrou Guirassy will leave the club.
When asked about the pair’s future, Wohlgemuth said: “Both have informed us that they will be leaving the club.” The duo have been heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund.
Both Anton and Guirassy have release clauses in their contracts. It is said that Anton’s is worth €22m and he will be brought in to replace the departed Mats Hummels, while Guirassy’s is worth €18m and will be brought in to beef up the attacking options at Dortmund.
Stuttgart has already begun to prepare for the departures of players this summer and has already brought in potential replacements, while they also continue to work on other signings.
To replace Anton, VfB have already brought in Ramon Hendriks (Feyenoord) and Julian Chabot (1.FC Köln). While upfront, former Werder Bremen striker Nick Woltemade can play as a backup to Deniz Undav, if Stuttgart are able to keep the Brighton striker permanently.
From a Stuttgart perspective, it is a shame that both Anton and Guirassy have immediately left the club after one good season that saw them qualify for the Champions League and the duo did not decide to stick around for another season to experience European football at the MHP Arena.
