Speaking to the media (via kicker) as they begin their pre-season training, VfB Stuttgart head coach Sebastian Hoeneß and sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth have commented on the future of Nick Woltemade.
The future of the 23-year-old is one of the hot topics at the moment in German football after it was revealed that he had agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich days before the under-21 European Championship final.
Since that news broke, the constant rumours have been about the price for Woltemade. With Stuttgart having no desire to sell, and the forward’s contract expiring in 2028, it will not be easy to prise him away from Mercedestraße.
When asked about the future of Woltemade, Wohlgemuth said:
“Nick is an important factor in our team. We value him both as a player and as a person, and last summer we agreed on a very long-term partnership. Nick sees an opportunity in every situation; that’s his form of professionalism. We don’t want to let him go and are planning with him for the coming season.”
While head coach Hoeneß commented:
“I assume that he will be with us next year. He’s on vacation now and will be joining us for the training camp. It’s clear that he’s a key player for us, a person and as a player. That’s why I’m planning with him. He’ll play an important role for us.”
With Bayern competing in the Club World Cup, it was decided that negotiations would begin upon their return to Germany, which will likely commence soon following their elimination at the weekend.
Stuttgart have already begun their pre-season training in Stuttgart and will travel to Rottach-Egern later this month. Woltemade is expected to join them later this week.
