According to BuLi News, VfL Osnabrück sealed promotion to next season’s 2. Bundesliga after Rot-Weiss Essen were beaten 6-1 by VfB Stuttgart II on matchday 36. The result confirmed their rise before they even faced Wehen Wiesbaden.

They became the first team to clinch promotion before playing. Timo Schulz’s side are guaranteed an automatic spot, and it is the club’s third such promotion since 2019.

Ecuadorian international Jeremy Arévalo became only the second non-German to score a 3. Liga hat-trick this season.

The second teams of Stuttgart and Hoffenheim avoided relegation to the Regionalliga.

SSV Ulm have dropped to the fourth tier after back-to-back relegations. TSV Havelse, Erzgebirge Aue and 1. FC Schweinfurt will also play in the multi-tier Regionalliga next season after finishing in the bottom three.

With two matchdays left, six teams, including Energie Cottbus and Essen, remain in the fight for one automatic place and a play-off berth. Former Freiburg midfielder Lars Gindorf leads the scoring chart on 23 goals for Alemannia Aachen.
